As fears around the end of the right to abortion in the United States continue to swell, the Italian fashion house has made a very clear statement.

Faced with the possible questioning of the right to abortion in the United States (according to a leak of documents, the judges of the Supreme Court are in favor of the reversal of the judgment Roe v Wade, guarantor of the right to IVG), Gucci announces that it undertakes to cover the costs of any American employee needing access to care not available in her State of origin.

"Gucci will also continue to support partner organizations that enable access to reproductive health and protect human rights, especially for the most vulnerable," added the Italian brand in a press release.

This is not the first time that the luxury brand has been heard on the subject.

In 2019, Gucci interfered in the debate with its Cruise show, which was then held in Rome.

It carried a political message, targeting a recent enactment in the United States of an ultra-restrictive law concerning the right to abortion by Alabama and its threat to overturn Roe v.

Wade.

The artistic director Alessandro Michele had wanted to defend the right to abortion by modifying his silhouettes a few days before the parade.

A feminist position thus manifested by embroidery on the pleated skirt, in a flowery womb.

Or delivered on the back of a velvet suit with the flagship feminist slogan, born in the 1970s:

My body, my choice

.

Alessandro Michele then mobilized everyone for this cause, without distinction of gender.

Commitments

To the announcements of the Italian label are added those of the brands Billie, Mother Denim or even Mejuri, which have also declared themselves in solidarity with the future of the reproductive rights of women in the United States.

As well as that of Levi Strauss & Co, the first brand to have taken a position last week.

In a press release, she said she wanted to “protect the health and well-being” of her employees.

Like those of Gucci, they will have access to reimbursements of costs related to abortion.
