For 9 euros, citizens can travel throughout Germany from June 1st.

However, not everyone benefits from the low fare.

Bahn customers get nothing from the 9-euro ticket.

Munich - the good news first.

The 9-euro ticket is valid for regional and local public transport throughout Germany.

Buses, subways, suburban trains and trams and, with a few exceptions, all regional trains throughout Germany can be used.

The less good news is: The ticket is not available for long-distance Deutsche Bahn trains.

This means that ICE, IC or EC cannot be used with the inexpensive monthly ticket.

This is where the first cost trap lurks: If you use long-distance transport with the 9-euro ticket, you will have to pay a lot more.

To prevent this from happening, train drivers can use the Deutsche Bahn app to find the right route for the 9-euro ticket.

The journey then takes a little longer than with the ICE or the EC, but it is much cheaper.

9-Euro-Ticket: Disadvantages for holders of train and season tickets

Many commuters use a season ticket for long-distance transport and a Bahn-Card-100.

Deutsche Bahn will probably not offer a refund for the Bahncard 100 for these travelers.

In addition, there is no discounted ticket for those who prefer to travel first class by train.

Because the 9-euro ticket is only valid for 2nd class, writes Deutsche Bahn on its website.

The regular price applies to 1st class.

However, since there is no first class on many routes, the purchase of a 9-euro ticket can still be worthwhile for travelers.

Certain international train journeys are covered by the 9-euro ticket, for example Munich-Salzburg.

If you want to cross the German border with a regional train, you should definitely find out beforehand whether the cheap monthly ticket covers this journey.

So Bella Italia for 9 euros does not work.

9-Euro-Ticket: Monthly ticket is issued to persons

The 9-euro ticket will come on June 1, 2022 and is intended to relieve citizens suffering from high petrol and gas prices.

The 9 euro ticket is only valid for the person who bought it.

No children can be taken along and children up to the age of 6 travel for free anyway.

Older children need their own 9 euro ticket.

Likewise, taking bicycles on public transport is not covered by the 9-euro ticket.

Ferries can also be used with the 9-euro ticket if they are part of public transport.

Nevertheless, the owners of a 9-euro ticket should inform themselves in advance on the local public transport portals.

For example, whether it is allowed to take a bicycle with you for free with the inexpensive monthly ticket.

  • The 9 euro ticket is valid in:

  • regular buses

  • S-Bahn

    Trams

    U-Bahn

    Regional trains 2nd class

    Regional express trains 2nd class

    Ferries (e.g. in Hamburg, Berlin)

  • Only long-distance transport by Deutsche Bahn (ICE, IC, ECE or EC) and private long-distance transport companies is not possible with the cheap ticket from the relief package.

Customers who want to buy the 9-euro ticket will probably be able to purchase it from May 20th at all ÖNPV and Deutsche Bahn ticket offices.

An online ticket is also planned.
