why is it happening?

1. Dental

hygiene: In cases where oral hygiene is not good, there is an accumulation of food debris and bacterial plaque that causes the development of gingivitis.

The result is an unpleasant mouth odor caused due to the bacterial products.

Brushing twice a day with the use of an accessory for cleaning between the teeth, such as dental floss, removes the bacterial plaque (plaque) and can prevent some of the causes of the odor.

2. Tobacco :

Tobacco products cause an unpleasant mouth odor.

In addition, they increase the chances of gum disease and create dry mouth which can also cause bad breath.

3. Food:

The breakdown of food particles trapped in the teeth can cause odors.

In addition, certain foods or beverages such as onions, garlic, spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine can also cause bad breath.

In addition to all the trouble, it also causes bad breath.

4. Dry mouth:

Saliva cleans the mouth naturally.

If the mouth is dry due to certain medications or diseases that impair the rate of salivation from the salivary glands, the quality of flushing is impaired and the accumulated food residues lead to the formation of bad breath.

5. Diets

: A low carb diet can also cause bad breath.

This is due to the breakdown of fats that produce breakdown products called ketones, which have a strong aroma.

6.

Medications: Some medications may reduce the rate of saliva secretion and thus increase odors.

Other drugs can produce odors as they break down and release chemicals in the breath.

8. Digestive problems:

Odor odors can sometimes come from the digestive system and digestive problems.

How is it diagnosed?

A dentist will be able to diagnose a suspicion of halitosis at the first appointment because of the smell of air that the patient exhales.

In the event of a patient complaint, the doctor may perform a comprehensive examination of the entire oral cavity and teeth in particular, rule out factors that may lead to an unpleasant mouth odor.

There's something to do with it.

There are a variety of techniques that accurately diagnose the phenomenon:

• Limometer: Detects low levels of sulfur.

Gas chromatography: This test measures three volatile sulfur compounds: hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfate.

• BANA test: Measures levels of a specific enzyme produced by bacteria that cause halitosis.

Testing of the enzyme beta-galactosidase: The levels of the enzyme were correlated with bad breath.

How is it treated?

Brushing:

Good oral hygiene is the key to most bad odor problems.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes.

Use an accessory for cleaning between the teeth at least once a day (floss, toothpicks, brushes between teeth).

The toothbrush should be replaced once every 3 months or earlier if it wears out.

Tongue brushing:

Bacteria, food and dead cells accumulate on the tongue.

It is imperative to clean the tongue on a daily basis.

It is recommended to use a dedicated tongue cleaner.

• Denture cleaning:

Care must be taken to clean the dentures after the entire meal.

The cleaning prevents the accumulation of bacteria on them.

• Treatment of dry mouth

: Drink plenty of water.

Avoid smoking that may intensify dry mouth.

You can chew gum or suck on sugar-free candies that can help secrete saliva.

In cases of extreme dry mouth, consult a doctor who may prescribe drugs that stimulate saliva flow.

• Proper nutrition:

Avoid onions, garlic and spicy foods.

Also, coffee and alcohol consumption should be reduced.
