Microsoft founder Bill Gates has contracted the corona virus.
The 66-year-old said on Twitter on Tuesday that he had mild symptoms and would remain in isolation until he was healthy again.
"I'm lucky to be vaccinated, boosted, and have access to testing and great medical care," Gates wrote.
The Gates Foundation is meeting on this day for the first time in two years and he will be able to attend the meeting online.
"We will continue to work with partners and do everything we can to ensure that none of us will ever have to deal with a pandemic again," the billionaire promised.
The foundation, which Bill Gates runs together with his now separated wife Melinda, has so far donated more than two billion dollars to prevent and fight the pandemic, especially in poorer countries.
The foundation had previously invested billions in the development of vaccines against other diseases.
At the beginning of May, Gates published the book "How we will prevent the next pandemic", in which he formulates an outlook on how to deal with further pandemics.
Gates was the focus of conspiracy ideologues at the beginning of the pandemic.
They had accused the Microsoft billionaire, without any evidence, of harboring dark economic and power-political ambitions in connection with corona vaccinations, or of striving for compulsory vaccinations.
Transparency note: In addition to vaccine research, the Gates Foundation also supports media companies in the USA and Europe, including the "Global Society" project at SPIEGEL with around 2.3 million euros over three years. Read more about it here.
