The responsible EU authorities are relaxing their corona measures for air traffic.
Among other things, the recommendation to wear medical masks in airports and on board aircraft will no longer apply from Monday, as announced by the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA and the EU health authority ECDC.
For passengers and crew members, this is a big step towards normalizing air traffic, said EASA boss Patrick Ky.
At the same time, the authorities emphasize that wearing a mouth and nose protector is still one of the best protective measures against the transmission of the corona virus.
According to EASA, the reason for the easing is the latest developments in the pandemic.
These include in particular the number of vaccinations, the immunity created by infections and the associated lifting of restrictions in more and more European countries.
France relaxes rules
France is also reacting to these developments.
There the obligation to wear a mask on public transport ends.
French Health Minister Olivier Véran said the change will come into effect early next week.
Nevertheless, it is recommended to wear a mask.
The health situation has improved, but the corona pandemic is not over yet.
The incidence value, i.e. the reported infections with the corona virus within a week per 100,000 inhabitants, was last around 405 in France.
In Germany, the federal states determine the corona rules.
Nationwide, the mask requirement still applies, for example, on long-distance trains, in clinics, homes and homeless shelters.
Regardless of this, companies, shops and other establishments can insist on wearing masks.
The obligation to test in clinics, nursing homes, schools and day care centers can also be ordered.
