The seventh suspect arrested on Tuesday in the case of the jewel theft from the Green Vault in Dresden is in custody.

A judge issued an arrest warrant on Wednesday morning, the prosecutor said.

Jihad Remmo was arrested on the fringes of the robbery trial – he was sitting in the hall as a spectator.

Investigators searched the man's car and apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg on Tuesday.

The investigators found out about the 22-year-old, among other things, because of the testimony of a defendant, as the public prosecutor announced.

Rabieh Remo had his defense attorney read a statement on his behalf on March 29, 2022.

In it, Rabieh Remo said that he knew who had planned the crime and who was involved.

"I don't want to and won't comment on other people's involvement in the crime." He only wanted to talk about his own involvement, he said.

But he did mention one name: Jihad Remmo.

21 trinkets stolen

In the trial, six men between the ages of 23 and 28 are charged with aggravated gang theft, arson and particularly aggravated arson.

The man arrested now is accused of aiding and abetting these crimes.

During the burglary on November 25, 2019, the men are said to have stolen 21 pieces of jewelry from the treasury with a total of 4,300 diamonds and brilliants with a total value of over 113 million euros and left property damage of over one million euros.

They are also accused of having set fire to a power box in the old town and a getaway car in the underground car park of a residential building.

At the beginning of March, the police published the search for another suspect: At that time, it was said that the person wanted had been in the jewel room for a long time and several times the day before the burglary.

His behavior deviated "conspicuously" from that of an average museum visitor.

The man may have spied on the premises and passed information on to the thieves.
