How to protect a mattress from humidity?

2022-05-11T18:42:43.919Z

Buying a mattress is a real investment. Also it is important to want to protect it as much as possible to guarantee it a good health.

You don't necessarily think about it when buying, but protecting your mattress is very important.

Why ?

because several events can occur, such as spilled coffee during breakfast in bed, or even a small accident when the youngest came to sleep with you, not to mention the traces of perspiration… all this damages the top of the mattress if it is not protected.

The mattress protector or the mattress pad can then be very useful.

They exist in all mattress sizes, but also in several forms (full cover, mattress cover or tray mattress protector) and allow you to spend peaceful nights.

Why protect your mattress from humidity?

We don't necessarily think about it, but protecting your mattress is important.

Indeed, various situations can arise and damage the top of your mattress if it is not protected.

For example, breakfast in bed and a spilled coffee or even the small accidents that can happen at night if one of your children has come to sleep with you... not to mention the sweating that leaves unsightly halos that are difficult to remove.

Because we lose about 2.4 liters of water every day!

And if a part is evacuated by breathing, the other part is evacuated by the skin.

It is this perspiration that infiltrates our mattresses at night and causes humidity.

The latter can generate mould, which is as unpleasant to see as it is to smell and which can be harmful to health,

especially for people with respiratory problems.

There is only one solution for this: fight against humidity.

The mattress protector avoids these small inconveniences.

It exists in many mattress sizes to adapt perfectly to the latter and, another advantage, it is machine washable.

The mattress protector is available in different materials (cotton, sponge or cotton jersey), to choose according to your preferences.

What equipment to protect your mattress?

There are several solutions to properly protect your mattress:

    • the mattress

pad: Hygienic, the mattress pad is a waterproof tray with 4 elastic bands at each corner to hold the mattress securely.

Its fabric surface is usually cotton and the waterproof side plastic.

The difference it may have with the mattress protector is that its primary function is to retain liquids for a long time.

It is used in particular for children or the elderly (enuresis).

The mattress is thus well protected.

    • the mattress protector

: Practical, the mattress protector looks like a fitted sheet, with elasticated sides to perfectly cover your mattress.

Its function is, as its name suggests, to protect.

It is perfect for dust, dust mites and perspiration.

It is much less absorbent than a mattress pad and does not retain liquids as much, unless it is partly waterproof with a plastic face.

    • the mattress topper

: it is in fact a second mattress which is positioned on your mattress.

Its primary function is to improve sleeping comfort, as it varies the firmness of your mattress.

It protects against dust mites and prevents soiling on the mattress.

Hygiene is also improved for the water evacuated by the body is absorbed by the mattress topper and no longer by the mattress.

Nevertheless, it is essential to ventilate or wash it regularly to maintain good hygiene.
