US actor James Cromwell has drawn attention to what he considers to be unfair milk prices at the Starbucks coffee chain with a drastic action.
In protest, the 82-year-old glued himself to the counter of a Starbucks branch in Manhattan on Tuesday.
A video by animal rights group Peta showed Cromwell sitting on the counter with another activist.
The background to the campaign is that Starbucks is charging surcharges for non-animal milk alternatives.
"There's no reason for it other than greed," Cromwell said in the video.
The actor called on the company to abolish the surcharges for vegan milk alternatives.
He was wearing a T-shirt that read, "Free the Animals."
He is known for his roles in "Babe", "LA Confidential" and "The Green Mile".
According to US media, the action lasted about half an hour, then Cromwell released his hand from the counter himself.
According to Peta, there were no arrests.
Cromwell has been an activist for the organization for years, and he has also run into trouble with the law because of his commitment.
The actor was arrested in 2017 after an action at a »SeaWorld« park in San Diego.
There he had disturbed an orca show together with other PETA activists.
Cromwell says he became vegan after his role in Babe.
At the Starbucks protest, he primarily denounced the separation of cows and their calves after birth for milk production.
"The mother cows mourn for their babies for days," says Cromwell.
