Many employees have to be in quarantine during the corona pandemic.
But do you also get a certificate of incapacity for work?
And what about the continued payment of wages?
If people complain of symptoms of illness that indicate an infection with the coronavirus, also known as SARS-CoV-2, those affected are advised to stay at home or to go into domestic isolation.
But will I be given sick leave by the doctor with a certificate of incapacity for work (AU) if I have to go into quarantine?
Quarantine ordered: who gets sick leave?
In fact, it depends on whether or not the person is ill and complaining of symptoms such as a runny nose, fever or a mild sore throat.
According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV)
, the doctor may issue a certificate of incapacity for work in the event of symptoms
.
The employee can then use this to report sick to their employer.
However, if the employee is
symptom-free
and the corona test is negative
, the doctor may not issue an AU certificate
.
In this case, the continued payment of wages by the employer is secured through compensation under the Infection Protection Act.
To do this, the patient submits the official notification of the order for quarantine to the employer.
However, the right to compensation does not apply to unvaccinated people.

In this case you have to be careful
If, on the
other hand, the corona test is positive
, you must be isolated immediately.
You will receive an AU and thus the regular continued payment of wages in the event of illness.
The same applies if a previously
symptom-free employee falls ill during the quarantine
: From this point onwards, there is an inability to work due to illness - and a certificate from the doctor is required.

What is the salary during quarantine?
Vaccinated employees who do not receive an AU certificate from the doctor due to a lack of symptoms and proven infection will still receive
compensation
from their employer in the amount of their net salary during quarantine.
The costs for this are reimbursed to the employer by the responsible health authority in accordance with the law on the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
By the way, the pension, health, nursing care and unemployment insurance obligation remains in place, the contributions (both employer and employee share) are paid by the respective federal state according to the KBV.
For
employees
who have not been vaccinated voluntarily , this entitlement to compensation under the Infection Protection Act has lapsed since November 1, 2021. They will therefore not receive any salary in quarantine unless they work from home.
