Invalides: focus on the colonial period

In its extension programme, the Musée de l'Armée is massively acquiring works and documents relating to the French presence in Indochina and Africa.


Posters, letters, photos, films, postcards of deserts, tropical landscapes or beautiful natives... And even more, uniforms, from the complete package with mosquito net to the button of a gaiter or a bottle of quinine.

Since last year, the Army Museum has moved up a gear in terms of acquisitions of works and documents.

"2021 has even been the institution's most prosperous year since its creation in 1905

," says Ariane James-Sarazin, General Heritage Curator.

And this increase should continue.

Our budget was 200,000 euros in 2018. It rose to 1 million euros, without sponsorship.

The Minerva plan, named after the Greek goddess of intelligence.
