Lidl is following the example of its competitor
Aldi
.
Aldi had already announced at the end of April that it would increase the minimum wage for its own employees to 14 euros from June.
The company justified the step back then with the current wave of price increases.
The
minimum wage
at the two largest German discounters will therefore continue to be well above the statutory minimum wage, which will only increase to EUR 10.45 in July 2022.
The statutory minimum wage will rise to 12 euros from October
According to traffic light plans, the statutory minimum wage is to be raised to 12 euros in October 2022.
Even then, the two discounters would still be higher at 14 euros.
