A four-year-old girl apparently stayed for two days next to her dead mother in an apartment in Upper Austria.
The child was freed after the 39-year-old woman's father could not reach his daughter.
The police confirmed a corresponding report in the Kronen Zeitung.
Accordingly, the grandfather of the girl had informed the police.
Officials broke open the door of the apartment in Wels and found the child next to the dead woman.
Apparently the woman was ill
The child was taken to a hospital for examination.
The police said the child was fine and was staying with relatives.
The investigators ruled out suicide or third-party negligence as the cause of the mother's death.
The woman is said to have suffered from a serious illness.
