A fire brigade operation in Hamburg also has a major impact on train traffic nationwide.
Due to a cable fire on Thursday evening, long-distance traffic is likely to be disrupted until midday on Friday, Deutsche Bahn said.
There are delays and cancellations.
Hardly anything goes north of Hamburg
ICE trains via Hamburg to Schleswig-Holstein and from Schleswig-Holstein to Bavaria are canceled on the section north of Hanover.
According to Bahn, IC trains between Hamburg, Flensburg and Denmark are also affected.
Even individual trains between Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia no longer run.
In addition, the ICE, IC and EC routes between Hamburg and southern Germany as well as Hamburg and the Czech Republic are affected by failures on various traffic sections.
