According to SPIEGEL information, the 16-year-old student, who is said to have planned a terrorist attack on schools in Essen, cited the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik as a role model.

During a search, police found a manifesto by the youth, in which he wrote about several "inspirations" for his plans, including the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in the USA and the shootings in Erfurt in 2002 and Winnenden in 2009.

According to SPIEGEL information, the Word file was overwritten with “DBG-Massker”.

DBG could stand for Don-Bosco-Gymnasium, the boy's current school.

The text begins with a quote from Adolf Hitler.

The student also wrote that he felt compelled to make a statement "because of the demise of the white race."

Under the heading "Inspirations", the young person then wrote about Columbine: It was a pity that the perpetrators shot "only a total of 12 opponents" at the time: "I hope I can get more kills." Also on the terrorist attack by a right-wing extremist in Christchurch, Australia, in which 51 people died, refers the high school student.

The perpetrator is his "idol".

He could “watch the attack stream again and again.

I wish I had an arsenal like that too."

At noon, a judge sent the suspect into custody.

The requested arrest warrant had been issued, said the Attorney General.

The student is being investigated on suspicion of a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state and violations of the Weapons and Explosives Act.

Special forces arrested the youth on Thursday night because he is said to have planned an attack.

The youth is said to have told a whistleblower that he wanted to place bombs in his school.

found explosives

Both the 16-year-old's current school and his former secondary school were then closed and searched for explosive devices.

During a raid on the suspect's apartment, the investigators discovered material that was suitable for a bomb, as well as "clearly xenophobic and right-wing extremist material".

Investigators found explosives and 16 tubular bodies, some prepared with clocks and nails, along with a homemade rifle and a crossbow with arrows.

An explosive bomb was found neither in the young person's apartment nor in the two school buildings.

The student's current and former schools had been searched with explosives detection dogs.

No suspicious items were found.

The Don-Bosco-Gymnasium in Essen-Borbeck remained closed on Friday.

“The staff will meet at the school to reflect on what happened and to prepare for the days to come.

This also includes the important oral Abitur exams next Monday," says the school management.

"We are grateful that we were spared worse."
