The heating season is over - the billing is often still to come.
Experts have calculated how high the price increase will be and what consumers will be prepared for in the future.
Despite the mild winter,
households in Germany
are facing
high back payments for heating
.
This is shown by calculations by the comparison portal Verivox.
"For oil customers, the plus is 75 percent compared to the previous year, while gas customers in the basic supply have to bear an average of 15 percent higher costs," the company announced at the beginning of May.
According to the German Weather Service, the past winter was one of the warmest since weather records began.
Between September 2021 and April 2022, the
heating requirement fell
accordingly: "A model household in a single-family house had to use around 5 percent less heating energy compared to the same period last year."
Heating oil: cost increase of 75 percent according to Verivox
However, oil customers could not have benefited from the mild weather.
“Despite the reduced demand, the average costs in the current heating period (September to April) have exploded to 1,822 euros.
Heating with oil has become 75 percent more expensive compared to the same period last year," says Verivox.
This corresponds to additional costs “of around 781 euros per year”.
The
heating oil prices in Germany
are closely linked to the development on the world market, as stated in the background information.
After the Corona dip, global demand for oil shot up and drove oil prices to the highs of 2014.
The war in Ukraine has reinforced this trend.
“Brent crude oil, which is important for Europe, has increased by more than 55 percent in the past 12 months.
Since the price low in April 2020, the price of oil has increased more than sixfold.”
Basic gas customers pay “15 percent more”
According to Verivox ,
consumers in the basic
service have not been spared from the cost increases: “A family with gas heating has paid an average of 1,613 euros for a warm home during this heating period.
The heating costs for the months of September to April rose by 15 percent compared to the previous year.
The gas bill is around 213 euros higher.
New customers have to reckon with significantly higher price increases of around 95 percent.”
Energy flat rate of 300 euros as a salary subsidy
In order to at least partially cushion the high energy costs, the traffic light coalition has announced an
energy price flat rate of 300 euros
as part of the relief package.
Every employee who is subject to income tax and who is sorted into tax brackets 1-5 should receive the one-time gross lump sum of 300 euros.
The money is paid out by the employer as a salary subsidy, for the self-employed the advance tax payment is reduced instead.
The lump sum is subject to income tax.
