The first war crimes trial has begun in Kiev in which the first Russian soldier, 21-year-old Vadim Shishimarin, accused of killing a civilian in the Sumy region, is in prison.
Shishimarin is accused of "violation of the laws and customs of war" and faces life imprisonment, underlines the UNIAN agency, recalling that he is the first Russian soldier to appear before a Ukrainian court.
According to Ukrainian investigations, on February 28 in Chupakhivka, in the Sumy region, the accused shot a civilian in the head who was riding a bicycle along the side of a road, talking on the phone.
The man, 62, died instantly a few tens of meters from his home.
