PERUGIA - After a year of work, on Friday 1 July the National Gallery of Umbria, in Perugia, reopens with a new set-up, new spaces, new methods of use.

Among the other novelties, two rooms entirely dedicated to Perugino, of which the museum preserves the largest number of works in the world, and the inauguration of the section reserved for contemporary art with works by Umbrian masters such as Gerardo Dottori, Alberto Burri, Leoncillo.

Tradition and innovation will be the two poles within which the new exhibition itinerary fits.

The new exhibition, designed by Daria Ripa di Meana and Bruno Salvatici, financed for 5 million euros by the Development and Cohesion Fund, offers the visitor a simpler and more intuitive use, at the service of a chronological museum arrangement, with some inserts of recent works acquired or recalled from deposits.

Among these, Saint Catherine of Alexandria (1540-1550), polychrome terracotta by Giacomo and Raffaele da Montereale, Rest on the flight into Egypt by Agostino Tassi (1580-1644), The Virgin and Child with Saint Gertrude by Giuseppe Maria Crespi (1665-1747).

For the first time, the National Gallery of Umbria, as mentioned, opens up to the contemporary: the museum, which mainly preserves paintings of sacred subjects dating from the 13th to the 18th century, will in fact dedicate Room 42 to the generation of Umbrian artists who participated as protagonists in the debate on the contemporary in Italy.

The lyrical Tramonto lunare by Gerardo Dottori and the cellotex by Burri from 1971, belonging to the museum collection, will be joined by Nero, by Burri himself.

In addition to the visit, the multimedia project curated by Magister Art, which will provide insights into a selection of the exhibited heritage.

The works have allowed the creation of a restoration laboratory and an educational classroom for laboratories, or activities in augmented reality.

Furthermore, one of the most significant innovations is the opening of an art history library, full of almost 30,000 volumes, set up in the Sala del Grifo and del Leone, which was possible thanks to the concession of the space by the Municipality. .

Even the "green" aspect has not been overlooked.

The new lighting system, with a high technological content, will be equipped with presence detectors that will allow to automatically calibrate the light intensity:
