LECCE - The panoramic lift of the seventeenth-century bell tower of the Cathedral of Lecce was inaugurated today which allows you to climb up to the third level of the tower to a height of about 43 meters where there are four balconies that will allow visitors to admire the panorama from 360 degrees.
Also available are viewers with multimedia sensors capable of focusing attention on the main points of interest in the area including, on clear days, the Adriatic Sea and the Albanian coast.
The system, which will also allow visitors to appreciate the internal wall structure of the bell tower - as well as its four bells - required restoration and consolidation of the ancient structure designed and directed by the architect Giuseppe Fiorillo.
The system, by Otis, is equipped with cutting-edge technology that minimizes energy consumption thanks to a meter of only 3 kWh of power.
The work is entirely financed by the Artwork social cooperative.
For the archbishop of Lecce, Michele Seccia, it is "a dream and an opportunity that could come true and become a new driving force for the tourist offer of Lecce and Salento.
Today we inaugurated it and it is here before our eyes the lift that brought us up here from the belly of our majestic bell tower to be able to contemplate the beauty from another hitherto unexplored point of view. "For the mayor of Lecce, Carlo Salvemini , "the lift represents a further qualitative leap for Lecce which will allow not only those who visit the city, but also those who live and work there, to have an unprecedented experience". the end we made it.
Today - says Paolo Babbo, president of the Artwork cooperative - is a day of great emotion. "
Visits to the bell tower will be possible from May to September, from 10 to 20. Info on 'chieselecce.it'.
