Special payment for heating, child bonus and grants for Hartz 4 recipients: The federal government has approved parts of the relief package - an overview.

Berlin – Because of the Ukraine war, many things have become more expensive.

The prices of some groceries in the supermarket have risen and energy costs in particular have skyrocketed.

This is particularly a problem for low-income earners and recipients of social benefits.

The planned oil embargo against Russia because of the Ukraine conflict does not make this situation any easier.

In order to be able to get all the intended points of the relief package off the ground, the federal government passed the tax relief law on Thursday (May 12).

Specifically, it has now been decided:

  • The employee allowance

  • The basic allowance

  • The commuter allowance

  • The energy price flat rate

  • The child bonus

  • One-off payment for benefit recipients

The

employee

lump sum increases from 1000 to 1200 euros.

This means the flat rate for income-related expenses, which is automatically taken into account for all employees in the tax return, provided no higher income-related expenses are stated.

The basic allowance for income tax will also be increased by EUR 363 to EUR 10,347.

Both apply retrospectively from January 1st.

The

commuter allowance

will be increased: from the 21st kilometer there is now 38 cents instead of 35 cents before.

According to the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil promised further measures because of the high inflation.

The inflation rate is rising, it is uncertain how energy prices will develop, Klingbeil told the RTL broadcaster.

"That's why I'm completely clear that we won't stop, that we'll take a close look at which areas we have to relieve."

Energy prices have risen because of the Ukraine conflict.

The federal government has therefore now decided on tax relief as part of the relief package.

The

energy price flat rate

for taxpayers was also decided, as energy prices have risen as a result of the Ukraine conflict and the EU embargo on Russian oil.

According to a statement from the federal government, the payment of 300 euros is to be paid out via the employer's pay slip from September.

The self-employed receive an advance on a one-off reduction in the income tax prepayment.

All employees, the self-employed and tradespeople should receive the energy price flat rate.

However, the energy price flat rate is taxable.

Federal government decides relief package: Opposition criticizes implementation of 9-euro ticket

Federal Finance Minister Christian

According to the information, Lindner also promised further relief.

2023

According to his conviction, the basic security standard rate must be increased, said the FDP politician on ARD.

Also the basic allowance in income tax

must be increased.

In addition, the wage and income tax rate would have to be adjusted to inflation, according to Lindner.

There is still a lot of discussion about the planned 9-euro ticket for buses and trains.

For example, consumer advice centers are demanding fundamental improvements, but see the

9-euro ticket

as an opportunity for local public transport, reports the German Press Agency (dpa).

The mobility expert of the federal association, Marion Jungbluth, told the dpa that the ticket, which is valid nationwide, could act as a "booster for buses and trains".

So far, complicated tariffs have put many people off.

The federal government should ensure that ticket and transport conditions are generally standardized.

Tax relief as part of the relief package decided: The 9-euro ticket is to be discussed next week

The

9-euro monthly ticket will

be available in June, July and August and will enable you to travel nationwide on regional and local transport for 9 euros a month.

The project is financed by the federal government paying the federal states 2.5 billion euros to compensate for the loss of income.

The law required for this was introduced in the Bundestag on Thursday (May 12) and is to be passed in the coming week.

However, the draft met with criticism from the opposition parties.

The CDU MP Michael Donth doubted a sustainable steering effect, according to the dpa.

Instead of making public transport more attractive with improved offers, the federal government is investing 2.5 billion in a "marketing gimmick".

For the AfD MP Mike Moncsek, from a business point of view, this is a "mistake".

In the future, commuters will have to fear for their place in overcrowded trains.

9-euro ticket: consumer advocate warns of overcrowded buses and trains in summer

On the other hand, the Left MP Bernd Riexinger spoke of a step in the right direction.

However, the limitation to three months is “disheartened and half-hearted”.

The left demands 9-euro tickets “until at least the end of this year”.

Consumer advocate Jungbluth warned that a lack of capacity could lead to bottlenecks, especially in summer, if excursions were shifted from cars to buses and trains because of the 9-euro ticket.

"So the trial offer could become a deterrent offer."

The draft law by the SPD, Greens and FDP regulates the financing.

Specifically, “regionalization funds”, with which countries and associations order transport offers from providers, are to be increased by 3.7 billion: In addition to the 2.5 billion for the 9-euro monthly tickets, another 1.2 billion will compensate for losses due to the corona pandemic.

The federal government is already giving 9.4 billion in regionalization funds this year, reports the dpa.

In addition, there is another billion from another financial pot.
