12 years after their last joint episode, David Tennant will return to play the Doctor in a special special, alongside Katherine Tate, who played the character of his assistant Donna • Excited show host: "It's going to be wonderful"

12 years after leaving the "Doctor Who" series, actors David Tennant and Katherine Tate will return to the series to play the 10th Doctor and his assistant Donna.

The comeback of the two, which excites millions of fans of the British science fiction series around the world, was recently filmed and is expected to air as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the successful series.

As you may recall, Tennant, who was voted the most beloved doctor about two years ago, played the character during the years 2010-2005.

Tate played Donna Noble, who was the Doctor's assistant, during only the fourth season - but despite the short time she has been on the show, she is considered one of her most beloved characters ever.

Without a spoiler, her breakup from the series was one of the saddest moments we've seen on TV - which will likely affect the union on the way.

Davis, the program director, expressed his joy at the two's return: "They're back! It would have seemed impossible, what's going on here? Maybe it's a missing story or a parallel world, maybe a dream or a prank. The only thing I can confirm is that it's going to be wonderful "By uniting two of our biggest stars in the battle of life."

The actress is currently playing the actress Judy Whitaker, who in a special of the series that will be broadcast later this year on the British BBC network, will part with the character.

Just last week it was announced that Shoti Gitwa, known as Eric from "Sex Education", has been chosen to be Whitaker's replacement - and he will be the 14th Doctor.

Gitwa will be the first black actor to play the character, a precedent-setting event - just as it was with the casting of Whitaker, who was the first woman to play the Doctor.
