It's been around six months since the police were called early in the morning to a traffic accident with a dead person on the A7 near Schleswig.

A woman was run over by a truck.

But it quickly became clear that the alleged accident was probably preceded by a violent crime.

The body of the 32-year-old had 24 knife wounds.

Her 34-year-old husband quickly became a suspect.

The Syrian, who last lived in Aarhus, Denmark, with his wife, who is also Syrian, has had to answer to the Flensburg District Court for murder since Monday.

Apparently the wife wanted to separate

He killed his wife on November 20, 2021 for base motives, the prosecutor said at the indictment.

Out of hurt honor and revenge, he decided to kill her.

According to the prosecution, the woman had intentions to separate.

The husband had been violent in the past.

For this reason he also lost custody of their two sons.

On the day of the crime, the couple was traveling early in the morning on the autobahn in the direction of Hamburg when, according to the public prosecutor's office, the man stopped on the hard shoulder near Schleswig and stabbed his wife at least 24 times with a kitchen knife in order to kill her.

pushed onto the road

The 32-year-old initially fled from the passenger seat to the back seat and was later pushed by the accused in the direction of the road, the prosecutor said.

The woman was then hit by a truck near Lürschau near the Schleswig/Schuby motorway exit and died on the spot.

The 34-year-old accepted her death, the prosecutor said.

He was arrested at the scene of the crime without resistance.

He was first in a psychiatric hospital and later in custody.

The truck driver could not be identified.

On Monday afternoon, two first responders testified before the 1st Great Trial Chamber.

A nurse who was on her way to work in Rendsburg from Flensburg was the first to arrive at the scene.

She drove past the scene of the accident around 6:05 a.m. and saw a car with three doors open, the witness said.

She slowed down and saw that there was a person in front of the car.

She then stopped and spoke to the person, but then saw that he was no longer alive.

She didn't realize at first that it was a woman.

Knife pointed at witness

According to the witness, she made an emergency call and then noticed a man standing by the car and leaning into the car over the passenger seat.

She spoke to him and shone the flashlight on her cell phone at him.

He then turned to her with a knife in his hand and said something in a language she did not know, the woman reported.

She felt threatened, also because the knife was pointed at her.

Overall, the man made an absent, unresponsive impression on her, the witness continued.

The second helper, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later, said in court that the man had seemed agitated and upset.

But he had no contact with him.

Lawyer assumes his client is innocent

The defendant himself did not comment on his person or the crime.

In an opening statement, his lawyer presented his client as innocent.

What exactly happened is not known.

There are still a large number of questions to be clarified and an accusation could also be wrong.

Such an »opening statement« at the beginning of negotiations is rather unusual.

However, it is permitted in negotiations for which more than ten process days are scheduled, as the presiding judge said.

In this case, 22 days of meetings are planned until the beginning of October.
