A boxer died after a competition in Garching near Munich.
The 38-year-old died on Sunday afternoon as a result of cardiac arrest.
The day before, he had been in the ring as the main fighter at an event, had collapsed and lost consciousness unattended.
Because around 50 fans are said to have prevented the rescue service from supplying supplies, more than 15 patrols and a special unit were deployed to secure the area.
This is how the Bavarian police described it in a press release.
After treatment on site, the athlete was transported to a nearby hospital.
Disturbing fans are said to have gathered there too, who had to be calmed down by the police.
It is unclear whether the delayed rescue measures are responsible for the athlete's subsequent death.
Participants in the event contradict the police
Thomas Gotterbarm, cultural affairs officer for the city of Garching, contradicts the police's representation.
"It was dramatic and emotional, but there was definitely no disruption to the rescue team," Gotterbarm told Merkur.
He was with employees at the event.
There had been no riots, the paths had been cleared for the rescue service.
Other visitors to the event confirmed Gotterbarm's observation.
"At no time did fans harass or disturb the paramedics," writes Lars Plath on Facebook.
Thomas Künzel was there as a delegate of the Association of German Professional Boxers (BDB).
According to his assessment, the contradictory statements may be related to the timing.
Immediately after the boxer collapsed in the ring, the paramedics present at every professional event took over the first aid and started resuscitation attempts, Künzel told SPIEGEL.
They sat right next to the ring, were sent in immediately and their work was not interfered with by anyone.
On the contrary, other participants in the event even ensured that the paramedics were able to do their job as best as possible.
Another ambulance called for help, which arrived at the venue after a few minutes, would probably have notified the police, who arrived later.
