In the city of Buffalo, New York, a young man killed at least ten people and injured three.

The 18-year-old is said to have opened fire on people in a district mostly inhabited by African Americans.

He broadcast the act live on the Internet.

The federal police FBI assumes a racist motive.

The alleged shooter was "another young man possessed by an inexplicable hatred," commented the Wall Street Journal.

There is no doubt "that there is a racist subculture in the USA that is being spread via social media".

Meanwhile, further details are known.

The Washington Post reports that the suspect used a so-called high-capacity magazine - a firearm magazine that allows more than the standard number of cartridges to be held.

According to the Washington Post, the murder weapon is a used Bushmaster XM-15 semi-automatic rifle, which the perpetrator is said to have purchased from a licensed arms dealer near his hometown.

He then prepared the weapon himself so that it could be used with more ammunition.

In the state of New York, magazines with more than ten rounds are prohibited.

In longer online posts, the suspect is said to have described his arsenal of weapons and explained that he preferred a 30-round magazine for his crime so that he would not have to reload as often.

The 18-year-old was arrested on Saturday and charged with multiple murders.

"Once a gun leaves the store, you're out of control"

The owner of the gun shop had confirmed to the New York Times and ABC on Sunday that he had sold the gun to the 18-year-old.

“I had the specific weapon ready at that specific moment.

And this particular guy bought them,” said the Conklin, New York, business owner.

"Once a gun leaves the store, you're out of control."

In the state of New York, customers over the age of 18 can buy guns without a license and only show in store that they have no criminal record or mental illness.

According to law enforcement, the suspect was investigated last June after he made an alleged threat.

According to local police, the then 17-year-old was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for a psychological assessment.

A day and a half later he was released.
