German Kita Prize goes to Heilbronn and Arnsberg


The best day-care centers are in Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia - at least that's what the jury of the German Day-care Center Prize thinks. The award was given to facilities that consistently put children at the center of their work.

Can the children in the Heilbronn family center "Olgkrippe" make their own decisions about everyday life in their day care center?

Of course, said manager Monika Karacic and her team - and introduced the "Children's Day" twice a year: Then the older children from the birth to the age of six take the place of the pedagogical specialists.

They answer phone calls, take care of materials, choose food and represent daycare decisions to the outside world.

"The family center is characterized by an appreciative, strength-based approach to all children, educators and families," praise the German Children and Youth Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs.

The "Olgakrippe" was therefore awarded the German Kita Prize on Monday in Berlin.

In everyday life, "children's rights are lived and consistently implemented," emphasized the jury.

The handling of the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the children and their families is also exemplary.

The German Kita Prize is a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and the German Children and Youth Foundation.

The following are also supporting: the Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation, the ELTERN brand, the freiheit+ social lottery and the Didacta association.

The prize was awarded for the fifth time in 2022.

The award aims to provide impetus for quality in early childhood education and expressly recognizes "the commitment of the people who show day-to-day in day-care centers how good quality can be achieved locally".

50 institutions are finalists each year, two are honored as main prize winners.

"The award is intended to encourage people to publicize their great work so that they get the attention they deserve," said Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus at the award ceremony, referring to the daycare workers: "They achieve enormous things every day and are important Anchor in the lives of the children and their families, especially in times of crisis like the one we are experiencing at the moment.«

The family centers in Arnsberg in the Sauerland were also awarded prize money of EUR 25,000.

The institutions that have networked city-wide won in the category "Local Alliance for Early Education".

Together, the family centers have set themselves the goal of enabling all children to grow up well.

The alliance has made the realization of children's rights a priority.

The jury was impressed by a children's rights day that attracted public attention through various campaigns and banners.

In addition, with uniform standards and good organization, the alliance has ensured that the family centers in Arnsberg are "remarkably independent of individuals and are therefore sustainable and forward-looking".
