(ANSA) - CANNES, MAY 16 - A powerful novel and scenario, a story of adolescent friendship and nostalgia, the one that takes you to the guts and no longer leaves you costing what it costs.

NOSTALGIA by Mario Martone from the novel of the same name by Ermanno Rea (Feltrinelli, 2016) starring Pierfrancesco Favino is the Italian flag bearer at the Cannes festival which opens on Tuesday 17 May with Michel Hazanavicius' zombies without Z.

It is the only film competing for the Palme d'Or with the tricolor flag, but our cinema is also scattered elsewhere, testifying to its international value and the circularity of talents.

Pietro Marcello will open the Quinzaine desRealisateurs with LE VELE SCARLATTE, his first film in France, with a French cast and an Italian co-production.

In the first world championship, Jasmine Trinca's directorial debut is expected-nellagiuria chaired by Vincent Lindon who will award the Palme d'Or on 28 May-with MARCEL starring Alba Rohrwacher, dedicated to her parents, presented in the SpecialScreening section.

VALERIA GOLINO is jury president at Un CertainRegard.
