Pianist Alexander Toradze dies aged 69 from heart attack

On April 23, while performing in Vancouver, the Georgian pianist managed to finish his concert just before being hospitalized. He died May 10 at his home.


On April 23, Georgian pianist Alexander Toradze performs with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO).

According to Radio Classique, he appears on the stage of Skyview High School's concert hall (Washington) weakened and accompanied by a doctor.

Not feeling well for several days, the musician has just been tested for Covid-19 but the test turned out to be negative.

, while catching his breath.

He was rushed to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center where he was diagnosed with acute heart failure.

The day after his hospitalization, Alexander Toradze recorded a video to thank the hospital staff.

The management of the orchestra chose to broadcast it to the public the same evening, when it should have played in a second concert.

Unfortunately, after two weeks of treatment, the pianist died at his home on the evening of May 10.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Alexander Toradze graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

In 1983, he settled permanently in the United States.

Alexander Toradze has worked with the most renowned conductors and has performed as a soloist with the world's great orchestras and in many summer festivals (Salzburg, BBC Proms, Edinburgh…).
