(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, MAY 16 - The Israeli police "violated in a very brutal way" the right "to religious freedom" of the Church during the funeral of reporter Shireen AbuAkleh.
This was stated by the charge of affairs of the Apostolic Delegation to the Holy Land, Father Thomas Grysa, during a press conference in Jerusalem.
A right, he explained, "included in the fundamental agreement between Israel and Santa Seda".
"This episode - he added - constitutes a moment of tension between Israel and the Holy See, even if it is not the first".
"We are shocked by the unjustifiable modalities for what happened and we want to denounce and condemn in a clear and unequivocal manner".
This was said by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
"Security reasons cannot justify an event of this kind - he added -, which affects the sensitivity of the Christian community and beyond, especially in such a delicate moment as the one we were experiencing".
