Yemen: first commercial flight takes off in six years

(ANSA) - SANAA, MAY 16 - The first commercial flight in nearly six years took off this morning from the rebel-controlled capital of Yemen: AFP journalists reported it on the spot.

    On April 1, the UN announced a two-month truce in Yemen and the start of meetings between the warring parties, who agreed to stop all operations. air, land and sea military offensives within the country and beyond its borders.


    The Yemenia Airways plane, which was carrying 126 passengers, including patients in need of treatment overseas and their relatives, took off shortly after 9:00 a.m. local (8:00 a.m. in Italy) from Sanaa to the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The first commercial flight was due to depart on April 24, but had been postponed to a date to be established.
