Plant zucchini on the balcony?
With enough sun it works

Zucchini can also be planted on the balcony.
You only need three things for a good harvest: enough sun, a large container and the right strain.

A lot of sun and a sufficiently large pot are particularly important for a successful harvest.
In addition, the balcony gardener makes life easier if he chooses a small zucchini variety.
Plant zucchini on the balcony: enough sun is important
Zucchini cultivation also works on the balcony if you pay attention to a few things.

Since zucchini is a Mediterranean vegetable, it goes without saying that it appreciates warmth and a sunny spot.
It should be several hours of sun a day, so a south-facing balcony is ideal.
A place on the wall of the house where the plant is also protected from rain is good.
But don't forget: water a lot!
Rich zucchini harvest: the tub makes the difference
Zucchini need enough soil, so a volume of at least 15 liters and a diameter of about 40 centimeters is recommended in containers.
Or you can look for short varieties that require less space.
The smaller the bucket, the more intensive care is, since the soil can store less water.
Collapsible plant bags are also ideal for balconies and terraces.
Flower boxes, on the other hand, are not suitable for zucchini (more vegetable news at 24garten.de).

Zucchini is easy to care for and a good vegetable for beginners.
These varieties are suitable for the balcony with their compact or climbing growth:

If you don't have much space, you can let the vegetables grow on the balcony - ideal for climbing zucchini that need a climbing aid.
And another tip for a rich zucchini harvest: the zucchini has both male and female flowers.
If there are too few insects to pollinate the plants, you should hand pollinate the flower yourself.
This can be done with a brush or cotton swab, for example.
