(ANSA) - LONDON, MAY 17 - Great Britain officially announces the introduction of a bill to give the government of Boris Johnson the powers of unilateral modification of the Protocol for Northern Ireland signed by London and Brussels in the post-Brexit agreements.

The Foreign Minister, LizTruss, said this in the House of Commons, according to which, in any case, the preference for a negotiation solution with the EU remains.

But it is necessary, Truss stressed, to resolve the political stalemate caused in Northern Ireland by the Protocol as soon as possible.

"If the UK decides to push through a bill that disappears the constituent elements of the Protocol as announced today by the British government, the EU will have to respond with all the measures at its disposal. Our aim is to find common solutions within the framework of the protocol".
