This was stated by the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky citing The Great Dictator, greeted by a standing ovation as soon as the surprise satellite connection began with the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival.
"We need a new Chaplin to prove that today's cinema is not silent".
Zelensky went back to the cinematic evocations "I like the smell of napalm in the morning," he said quoting Apocalypse Now.
The president also referred to the documentary Mariupol 2 which cost the life of director Kvedaravicius.
