In the transition from social network to metaverse, Meta has decided to rename its payment platform which, from Facebook Pay, becomes Meta Pay.
This was announced by Stephane Kasriel, head of the Commerce & Financial Technologies division of the American giant, also citing future integrations with the blockchain and works of art in NFT.
"Imagine a world where entertainers and athletes can sell NFT to fans, to be shown in their virtual homes on Horizon," reads a blog post from Meta.

The experience offered with Facebook Pay will soon approach the Meta brand, taking on the name Meta Pay. "Last week, Instagram confirmed the start of the experimentation phase for sharing and purchasing NFT directly from the posts on the bulletin board. The company sees Meta Pay as an opportunity to “bring more people into the financial system.” Kasriel said Meta is in the “very early stages” of creating a unique wallet for its users to use on existing apps, such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and on future ones, with the Horizon metaverse at the center.
"Now is the time to lay the foundations for the future. Because with a solid foundation, the potential for the financial sector on the metaverse will be limitless."
Since changing its name to Meta last October, Zuckerberg has started renaming its products to fit the new brand.
Specifically in the metaverse and virtual reality, viewers like the Oculus Quest have become Meta Quest and Facebook Portal, the speaker with display and Alexa, is now Meta Portal.
