In Europe, 2021 remains a dark year for the sector.

In the 27 countries of the European Union as well as in Great Britain, attendance at cinemas has plunged by 60% compared to the average level of admissions recorded before the pandemic, between 2017 and 2019. According to a new study by the European Audiovisual Observatory, while the number of tickets sold was almost one billion before the health crisis, it fell below the 400 million mark last year.

Result: the gross receipts of the rooms, or 2.9 billion euros, fell by 58% compared to the pre-pandemic situation.
