First green light from the Council of Ministers in Spain to the bill on the "sexual and reproductive" rights of women which includes leave for "painful" and "disabling" periods covered by the state.
After days of debate, the official confirmation came at a press conference by the Minister of Equal Opportunities, Irene Montero.
“The time to go to work stuffed with pills and having to hide the pain that prevents us from working on period days is over,” she said.
"We are the first country in Europe to regulate special temporary permits for painful menstruation paid entirely by the state", she added., "The condition (to access them) is that, linked to this painful cycle, there is disabling pain,
which in many cases is associated with other pathologies. "Montero further explained that to access these permits it will not be necessary to have previously paid social security contributions." We are advancing in feminism.
