(ANSA) - MADRID, MAY 17 - First green light from the Council of Ministers in Spain to the bill on the "sexual and reproductive" rights of women which includes leave for "painful" and "disabling" menstruation covered by the state.
After days of debate, official confirmation came in a press conference from the Minister of Equal Opportunities, IreneMontero.
"It's time to go to work stuffed with pills and having to hide the pain that prevents us from working on period days," she said.
"We are the first country in Europe to regulate temporary special permits for painful extractions paid entirely by the state", she added.
Montero also explained that to access these permits it will not be necessary to have previously paid social security contributions.
"We are advancing in feminism. Women must be able to decide freely about their lives," premier Pedro Sánchez wrote on Twitter.
