The trial between the actress and Johnny Depp, against a backdrop of mutual accusations of domestic violence, has indeed resumed on Monday, May 16, in Fairfax, Virginia, after a week's break.
However, since April 11, the start of this legal battle, Johnny Depp has avoided meeting the gaze of his ex-wife.
An attitude that his lawyer Camille Vasquez explained in court.
"Mr.
Depp hasn't looked at you once during this entire trial, has he?"
she asked Amber Heard.
To which the actress replied: “Not that I know of, no”.

“You will never see my eyes again”
“You watched it several times, didn't you?” Camille Vasquez continued.
A question to which Amber Heard answered in the affirmative.
“You know exactly why Mr. Depp isn't looking at you, don't you?” asked the lawyer.
Before continuing, after Amber Heard's positive response: "He promised you that you would never see his eyes again, do you confirm that?".
"I don't remember him saying that," the actress replied.
The lawyer later released the recording of one of the last meetings between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, which took place in 2016, in a hotel in San Francisco, despite the restraining order requested by the actress.
Johnny Depp has since revealed what he expected from this reunion: that the

“I am nothing more for you, and I will never be anything more for you, we hear it affirmed.
We will never see each other again.
Do you like looking at my expressive eyes?
You won't see them again."

“Neither strength nor courage”
Amber Heard thus confirmed before the court that Johnny Depp had kept his promise.
“He refuses to look at you, doesn't he, Mrs. Heard?” concluded Camille Vasquez.
"He can't," admitted the main interested party.
At the beginning of May, the spokesperson for the actress nevertheless published a press release in which he declared: “Her legal team (
that of Johnny Depp, editor’s note
) is so panicked that she is fighting tooth and nail to prevent the presentation of convincing evidence and of pictures.
(…) It is no wonder that Mr Depp has neither the strength nor the courage to watch Ms Heard throughout the proceedings – as he could not do in the UK trial – and that he rather scribbled and sneered.”
