The sensational burglary at the Emmerich am Rhein customs office in November 2020 may be about to be solved.

According to the Kleve public prosecutor's office and the police, four suspects were arrested on the basis of existing arrest warrants.

During the burglary, the perpetrators penetrated the wall of the vault with a core drill and stole 6.5 million euros.

Those arrested included a German customs officer who also has a Polish passport and is said to have been the tipster for the coup - also a Polish woman who is said to have acted primarily as an intermediary, and two suspected perpetrators from Poland who should have carried out the act.

Apartments searched

In cooperation with the Polish authorities and the police in Saxony, all arrests were made in the Polish cities of Zgorzelec and Karpacz.

The suspects have already been brought before a magistrate in Poland and are in custody.

According to the information, German police officers searched the two homes of the suspected customs officer in Cologne and Görlitz and his place of work in Bonn on May 10.

In addition, a large number of objects in Poland were searched by the Polish law enforcement authorities.

The break-in into the customs office is also the subject of an independent investigation conducted in Poland.

Against the background of the investigations that are ongoing both in Poland and in Germany, no further information is currently being published, it is said.
