It was the eye-catcher at the Met Gala in New York, the most important fashion party in the world: Kim Kardashian wore an original dress by Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe, it is said to be worth five million dollars.
According to Kim Kardashian, she lost seven kilograms to fit into the acting icon's dress.
Monroe wore the Jean Louis dress in 1962 to sing a birthday song to then-US President John F. Kennedy.
And if Bob Mackie had his way, Monroe would have remained the sole wearer of the dress.
"I thought that was a big mistake," he told Entertainment Weekly.
Mackie was an assistant to the famous designer Jean Louis in his early career and thus had drawn the sketch for the dress.
For Monroe, like he said.
Marilyn was a goddess - 'A crazy goddess, but a goddess.
(...) It was made for her.
It was designed for you.
Nobody else should be seen in that dress,” Mackie said.
The designer shared concerns that wearing the dress could damage it.
Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, is considered the biggest film star of her time and perhaps the greatest icon of the 20th century.
Fashion expert Barbara Vinken said in a SPIEGEL interview about Kardashian's performance at the Met Gala that the former reality star "doesn't just want to copy Monroe, he wants to surpass it".
