(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 18 - "As a Church we need to go back to the essential, not to get lost in so many secondary things with the risk of losing sight of the simple purity of the Gospel".
The Pope said this when he received the association 'Spiritual Family Charles de Foucauld' in audience.
"The new saint lived his being a Christian as a brother to all - continued the Pope - starting with the little ones. He did not have the objective of converting others but of living the free love of God by carrying out the apostolate of goodness".
The Pontiff thanked the association for "the testimony, it does so much good in a time when there is a risk of closing in on particularities, of increasing distances, of losing sight of the brother. Unfortunately we see it in the news every day".
"I too would like to thank St. Charles de Foucauld because his spirituality did me so much good when I was studying lateology, a time of maturation and also of crisis", "it helped me so much to overcome the crises and to find a simpler, less Pelagiana and closer to the Lord "," it did me so much good ", confided Pope Francis.
