The whole debate has focused on raising the retirement age to 65, a measure rejected by the unions which, while it may seem necessary, remains unpopular.
Because the step to climb is high: the DREES study reveals that the effective retirement age was, on average in 2020, 62 years for men and 62 years and 7 months for women.
So still very far from the 65-year-old target around 2032, even if the retirement age has been rising steadily since 2010 (up 1 year and 9 months), mainly following the Woerth reform which had taken a decisive first step by raising the age limit from 60 to 62 years.
