The competition in the streaming market is growing.
Netflix reacts with a price increase.
Here we reveal what customers need to be prepared for.
Once again, the streaming service Netflix is planning a price increase.
The higher prices will initially apply to the new subscribers in the US and Canada.
Existing customers will be gradually introduced to the new prices and will be informed 30 days before the price increase goes into effect, according to US magazine
The Verge
.
In this article you can find out which contributions are due there and when an increase can be expected in Germany.
Netflix: Price increase in the US and Canada
Those who opt for a new Netflix subscription in the US or Canada now have to pay
$9.99
instead of $8.99 for the basic package.
The streaming service used to charge $13.99 for the standard model – now it's a
whopping $15.49
.
If you prefer to watch your films and series in the best quality, you can opt for the premium package.
So far, $17.99 has been due for this – new customers will be charged
$19.99
a month from now on.
But why are prices raised so often?
"We're adjusting our prices so we can continue to offer a wide variety of
quality entertainment options
," a Netflix spokesman told
Reuters
.
"As always, we offer a range of plans so our members can choose a price that fits their budget."
When will Netflix prices increase in Europe and Germany?
Great Britain and Ireland were the first European countries to be hit:
Netflix users on the island now have to pay three euros more for the Netflix premium subscription instead of EUR 17.99
.
Higher subscription prices are also due for the basic and standard packages: Irish customers should now pay EUR 8.99 (basic) or EUR 14.99 (standard) per month.
The news portal Giga also
informs
that slightly lower prices in British pounds apply in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
German Netflix subscribers will probably also have to adjust to higher prices.
So far, the premium subscription in Germany still costs 17.99.
This price was fixed in 2019, previously it was 15.99 euros.
In January 2021, the standard tariff in Germany was increased by one euro to 12.99 euros, as the editorial network Germany informed.
The basic tariff remained unchanged at EUR 7.99.
But for how much longer?
So far there are no official reports about Netflix price increases in Germany
.
However, it is rumored that the price adjustment in Ireland and the UK could be seen as a sign that other European countries will soon follow suit.
An indication of this could be that US prices were initially increased in 2020 before prices in Europe were also increased in 2021.
So it remains to be seen when we will also have to pay more for a subscription to the streaming service in this country.
