Small dark dots after shaving on the legs - a phenomenon that many women struggle with.

Is it the blades?

Or frequent shaving?

We give answers.

  • The Americans call them "Strawberry Legs", which translates as "strawberry legs".

  • A good picture for the small red or dark spots that can be seen at regular intervals on the skin like the seeds on a strawberry and above all one thing: disturb the wearer.

  • A dermatologist explains how the spots develop and what you can do about them.

Inflammation of the skin: This is how "strawberry legs" develop

The Elle portal asked Dr.

Miriam Rehbein, specialist in dermatology in Munich: "Basically, it is ( editor's

) a kind of keratosis pilaris (keratosis pilaris).

The small inflammations of the hair follicles and cornifications look like a ' strawberry skin'

".

According to the dermatologist, women with a lot of leg hair and dark hair are particularly at risk.

The ugly spots appear when the openings in the skin from which hair grows (hair follicles) are irritated by shaving.

If they then no longer close after shaving, there is a greater risk that they will catch fire due to the ingress of foreign substances.

"Sebum and oil residues in the pores caused by the decomposition of bacteria can also cause the skin to turn black," says Rehbein.

Not only shaving, but also tight clothing can irritate the hair follicles and lead to "strawberry legs"

Peeling and fresh blades: what helps against dark spots

Although they are not painful and not dangerous, some sufferers would like to do something about the unsightly areas.

With the following tips from dermatologist Rehbein, spots on the legs should be a thing of the past:

  • Regular peelings

: According to Rehbein, a gentle peeling is recommended to prevent clogged pores on the legs.

This would also remove dirt or sebum that promotes the formation of dark spots.

24Garten.de* reveals a peeling made from just three ingredients that make the skin soft to the touch again in no time.

  • Use toner

: Clarifying face toner with salicylic acid removes calluses and dead skin cells and stimulates cell renewal.

"Simply put the toner on a cotton pad and rub your legs with it - that works small miracles," recommends dermatologist Rehbein for "strawberry legs".

  • Fresh blades

: The be-all and end-all when shaving is a good razor and a sharp blade.

Old blades that may even have started to rust should be disposed of immediately.

The reason: Old, blunt blades promote inflammation and ingrown hairs.
