There are 30,310 new infections from Covid recorded in the last 24 hours,

according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Yesterday there were 30,408.

The victims are 108, down from 136 yesterday.

There are 893,175 people currently positive for Covid, 59,403 fewer in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

A total of 17,178,199 Italians have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic, while the deaths rise to 165,738.

The discharged and healed are 16,119,286, with an increase of 90,017 compared to yesterday

.

The positivity rate is 12.2%, up slightly from 11.5% yesterday.

There are 308 patients admitted to intensive care, 10 fewer than yesterday in the balance between entries and exits.

The daily admissions are 28. The hospitalized in the ordinary wards are 7,020, or 256 less than yesterday.

In the last seven days, the decline in infections has slowed down (-14.8% against the figure of -27.5% of the previous week);

intensive care (-5.9%), ordinary hospitalizations (-13%) and deaths (-9.4%) are down.

    This is what emerges from the new monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation for the period 11-17 May on the basis of which the new weekly cases amounted to 244 thousand with a 7-day moving average of almost 35 thousand cases per day.

In all regions there is also a percentage reduction in new cases: from -0.1% in Sardinia to -22.7% in Calabria.

Compared to the previous week, Gimbe points out that in the last seven days the new cases are 243,932 compared to 286,350;

763 versus 842 deaths. Currently positive cases are also decreasing (967,401 versus 1,082,972 of the previous week), people in home isolation (959,599 versus 1,074,035), hospitalizations with symptoms (7,465 versus 8,579) and intensive care (337 versus 358 the previous week).

In 4 Provinces there is a percentage increase in new cases (Rimini + 0.4%; Biella + 1.7%; Bologna + 3.2%; Nuoro + 32.7%), in 103 a reduction (from -1, 6% of Cuneo to -39.1% of Vibo Valentia).

As regards hospital indicators, Marco Mosti, the operational director of the Gimbe Foundation, explains "the number of beds occupied by Covid patients records a further decline both in intensive care (-5.9%) and in the medical area (- 13%) ".

In detail, in the critical area as of May 17 there were 337 occupied beds;

in the medical area, on the other hand, after the peak of 10,328 recorded on April 26, Covid beds fell to 7,465 on May 17.

As of May 17, the national employment rate was 11.6% in the medical area and 3.6% in the critical area.

Five Regions exceed the 15% threshold in the medical area, with Umbria reaching 27.5%, while all the Regions are below the 10% threshold for the critical area.

"

Deaths are still decreasing: 763 in the last 7 days (of which 38 referring to previous periods), with an average of 109 per day compared to 120 in the previous week.

Finally, the number of total tampons decreased (-12.4%): from 1,971,656 in the week of 4-10 May to 1,727,246 in the week of 11-17 May.

In particular, rapid tests decreased by 13.8% (-209.315), while molecular ones by 7.8% (-35.095).

The 7-day moving average of the positivity rate is essentially stable for both molecular buffers (8.2% to 8%) and rapid antigenic agents (16% to 16.1%).

Vaccines: Gimbe, over 80 and frail push on fourth dose

From mid-February progressive increase in elderly mortality rate

The over 80, the frail and the guests of the RSA who have received the third dose do not delay with the second booster: "Waiting for the autumn to have an updated vaccine is very dangerous for vulnerable people who, on the contrary, must receive the further booster 120 days after the third dose ".

This was stated by Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation, who presented his new weekly report.

The international scientific evidence, we read in the text of the independent weekly monitoring, shows that vaccination protection against serious disease begins to decline after 120 days from the administration of the booster.

"In Italy, starting from mid-February - says Gimbe - there is a progressive increase in the mortality rate in the over 80s (from 28.8 to 40.1 deaths per 100 thousand people) and,

"The decline in vaccination efficacy against serious disease - explains Cartabellotta - is causing a net increase in mortality in the elderly population, already vaccinated with three doses, while the scientific evidence on the efficacy of the second is increasingly consolidated. booster in reducing hospitalizations and deaths. In this sense, the unacceptable regional inequalities on coverage with fourth doses speak for themselves: it is necessary to move everywhere to active call strategies, much more effective than voluntary booking, with a desirable involvement of family doctors ".

As of May 18, according to Gimbe's data, only 509,480 fourth doses have been administered compared to an audience of 4.4 million people.

The national coverage rate is 11.5% with clear regional differences: from 3.2% in Calabria to 24.7% in Piedmont.

If the fourth dose does not take off, 8.22 million people have not yet received the first booster dose as of May 18.

Also as of May 18, according to the Gimbe Foundation, 39,483,137 third doses were administered with an average of 7,795 doses per day in the last week.

Based on the official audience (47,703,593 people), updated as of May 6, the national coverage rate for third doses is 82.8% with clear regional differences: from 77.2% in Sicily to 86.8 % of the Aosta Valley.

Of these 3.41 million can receive it immediately,

equal to 7.1% of the audience with clear regional differences (from 3.8% in Abruzzo to 11.4% in Sicily);

4.81 million cannot receive it immediately as they have been healed for less than 120 days, equal to 10.1% of the audience with clear regional differences (from 6.7% in Valle D'Aosta to 12.8% in Abruzzo ).

Gimbe, incidence increases in 4 Provinces, + 32.7% cases in Nuoro

There are only four provinces where the incidence (Covid positive rate) increases: Bologna (+ 3.2%), Rimini (+ 0.4%), Biella (+ 1.7%) and Nuoro (+32, 7%).

According to the weekly monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation (for the period 11-17 May), there are only 17 provinces where the incidence exceeds 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

These are Chieti (741), Salerno (647), Nuoro (640), Pescara (638), South Sardinia (620), Ascoli Piceno (605), Crotone (603), Cagliari (600), Teramo (594), Avellino (588), Oristano (571), Campobasso (571), Benevento (559), Terni (543), Bologna (537), L'Aquila (531) and Fermo (518).

At the regional level, the incidence is decreasing everywhere: the greatest percentage decrease is recorded in Calabria (-22.7%), followed by Basilicata and Sicily (both with -21.6%), by Veneto (-21.3%). %) and Liguria (-20.7%).
