Yellow teeth (tooth staining) -

This is mainly an aesthetic damage, which causes the teeth to change their whitish color from yellow to brown due to the harmful substances found in cigarettes such as tar and nicotine.

A correlation can be seen between the damage to the color of the teeth and the length of time since the person started smoking.

Bad breath -

the phenomenon is almost unnecessary to introduce, cigarettes can cause bad breath, even temporarily where it can be treated with mouthwash, but also a chronic condition of "lithosis" (in the mouth) that requires treatment at the dentist.

Impairment of the sense of taste -

Over time, smoking can cause real damage to the sense of taste, due to the dominance of the smoke that overshadows our senses.

The damage in such a case is in the impairment of the ability to identify spoiled and offensive food due to the loss.

Caries -

The most common dental disease, which is even more common among smokers, more than 40 percent of adults between the ages of 20 and 64 who smoke cigarettes today suffer from untreated caries.

Adults 65 and older who smoke cigarettes are twice as likely to suffer from untreated tooth decay than those who have never smoked.

Tooth loss -

Smoking can cause gum disease and inflammation, and over time the loss of grip of the teeth in the jaw.

Lack of care and neglect of the condition can result in tooth loss and a lengthy process of restorative treatments.

It should be noted that smoking is a very significant risk factor for tooth loss - more than 40 percent of those aged 65 and over who have lost their teeth.

Oral cancer -

Oral cancer is one of the more common cancers, and develops mainly in older men, smokers and alcohol consumers.

The clinical stage in which the tumor is detected in the mouth will also dictate the course of treatment and may include: surgery (surgery), radiation therapy, chemotherapy individually or in combination.

Early detection and prompt treatment are necessary conditions to offer the best chance for a cure.

How is the damage of smoking to teeth treated?

The best way to treat the damage mentioned above is to first stop smoking and not cause further damage, both to general health and to oral and dental health.

If you have started to suffer from one or more of these symptoms, these are the ways to treat:

Strict oral hygiene

- People who brush their teeth daily and with complementary measures such as rinsing with mouthwash and floss can help the mouth and body better cope with the damage of tobacco products.

Teeth whitening (whitening) treatments -

are given in dental clinics, but even here it is only an aesthetic solution, which can help restore the teeth to their color.

Of course, in order to get a good result, dental treatment must be preceded by dental treatment, and after the clarification, smoking must not be allowed for a period of time, otherwise the result of the treatment will not be fully obtained.

This is why this treatment is recommended for those who have decided to quit smoking.

Dental care -

All people are advised to adhere to a routine of dental examinations at the dentists and stone cleaning at a dentist once every six months (sometimes once every 3 months).

But for smokers this duty is even more important, also to detect untreated gum disease and tooth decay and even rule out the development of cancerous tumors.
