A huge bank hall in the heart of Naples which now becomes a large art gallery

.

In fact, the new headquarters of the Gallerie d'Italia of Banca Intesa Sanpaolo will be inaugurated on Friday 20 May

in the monumental historic building of the former Banco di Napoli designed by the architect Marcello Piacentini, in via Toledo 177.

The "Gallerie d'Italia - Naples" tripled so the spaces of Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano, bringing them to ten thousand square meters.

It is an architectural intervention of great impact that updates the building without distorting its historical value.

The breadth of the spaces places the Neapolitan Galleries, underlines the banking institution, on a par with large national museums.

A selection of Neapolitan and southern paintings and sculptures will be exhibited, from the beginning of the 17th to the first decades of the 20th century, starting with the masterpiece of the Intesa Sanpaolo collection, the Martyrdom of Saint Ursula by Caravaggio, as well as new itineraries dedicated to ceramics. Attic and Magna Graecia and modern and contemporary art.

The new museum, which leaves the banking activities in the building running, has led to an updating of the building, whose main body is the work of Marcello Piacentini in 1940, without distorting its historical value in line with what was created for the other locations of the Galleries of Italy.

In addition to the permanent exhibition divided into different themes, there are also three classrooms, on the first floor, which allow the expansion of educational activities for schools and for specific audiences, always free, which over the years have represented an element of fundamental commitment from part of the Bank towards the territory.
