(ANSA) - GENEVA, MAY 19 - Conflicts and natural disasters forced tens of millions of people to flee their homes last year, remaining in their respective countries, with a consequent sharp increase in the number of internally displaced people who have touched the threshold worldwide of 60 million: this is what emerges from a joint report by the NGOs Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (Idmc) and NorwegianRefugee Council (NRC) published today.
According to the two NGOs, there were approximately 59.1 million internally displaced persons in 2021, a historical record that should be broken again this year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
