« C’est comme si vous louiez une maison (…) et vous savez qu’il y a 60 ouvriers qui sont morts pour la construire. Est-ce que vous aimeriez vraiment partir en vacances dans cette maison ? ». Avec cette comparaison choc, Gabrielle, membre du Collectif Ibiza, espère sensibiliser sur les conditions de travail des ouvriers migrants au Qatar.

With other activists, they gathered this Thursday, May 19 in front of the headquarters of the French Football Federation to play a match with a ball soaked in artificial blood.

“Little by little, we are covered with this blood which in fact symbolizes the thousands of deaths that there were on the construction sites of the World Cup”, explains François Robert, member of the Collectif Ibiza.

This collective action, grouped under the hashtag #RamenezLaCoupeALaRaison, calls on the FFF, sponsors and players to act.

"We know that the action of players can have an impact either as teams or as individuals," defends Gabrielle.

Since the organization of the 2022 FIFA World Cup was entrusted to Qatar, several thousand migrant workers have died on major infrastructure projects in the country.

According to Amnesty International, nearly 70% of these deaths remain unexplained.

Despite numerous reports linking the deaths of these workers to extreme working conditions, the Qatari authorities have not carried out a comprehensive investigation into the real causes of the deaths.

And deny the figure of 6,500 dead workers, published by the newspaper The Guardian.
