The transmissibility index decreases: this week it is fixed at 0.89 compared to 0.96 the previous week.

The incidence also falls and is fixed at 375 per 100 thousand inhabitants compared to 458 last week.

According to what is learned, it emerges from the

weekly monitoring

of the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health on the progress of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The employment rate in intensive care drops to 3.1% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of May 19) compared to 3.4% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of May 12).

The employment rate in medical areas nationwide drops to 10.9% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of May 19) compared to 12.6% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of May 12).

This is highlighted by the weekly ISS-Minister of Health monitoring on the progress of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The Covid shelter curve accelerates the descent.

In the week, 10-17 May, the total number of hospitalized patients, both in the ordinary wards and in the intensive care units, was reduced by 14.9%: a double decrease compared to that of the period 3-10 May when the decrease had been 7.5%.

This is what emerges from the survey of sentinel hospitals of the Italian Federation of Healthcare and Hospitals (

Fiaso

), which highlights how cases in ordinary wards have been reduced by 15% and in intensive care by 14.8%.

In intensive care, the percentage of no vax patients who have contracted severe Covid is 24%.

The decline in pediatric hospitalizations also continues.

In the survey of 17 May in the four pediatric hospitals and in the pediatric wards of the hospitals belonging to the Fiaso sentinel network, a 15.9% reduction in Covid patients was observed.

Children up to 4 years are still the majority of hospitalized under 18 or 65% of patients (16% are between 0 and 6 months);

19% of hospitalized patients are between 5 and 11 years old, while 16% are between 12 and 18 years old.

"The decline in Covid hospitalizations and the closure of some hospitalization areas dedicated to patients with the virus - says Giovanni Migliore,

president of Fiaso - they are slowly bringing the hospitals back to normal and they are giving us back a fully operational health care with the resuscitators back in the operating room and with a great effort by the companies to recover the services suspended due to the pandemic.

But, with the virus still circulating very widely, in order to be able to keep the hospitals empty from Covid in view of the autumn, the entire population of the frail and elderly must take the fourth dose ". To date, Better still points out," l adherence to the administration of the second booster is completely insufficient to guarantee effective levels of protection: only 25.7% of the immunocompromised received the fourth dose while among the over 80 the percentage is just 11.5%.
