Inflation forces, the French gave less in 2021

According to the Apprentis d'Auteuil foundation, the rise in energy prices has weighed on donations. After the outpouring of generosity sparked by the health crisis in 2020, the amounts paid have returned to their 2019 level.


Inflation and rising energy prices also affect the generosity of the French.

Proof of this is that the average amount of declared donations fell in 2021, according to the barometer of the Apprentis d'Auteuil foundation.

It fell to €274 per household last year, compared to nearly €395 in 2020 (-30% over one year).

"Donations have returned to the level that was theirs in 2019,"

says Stéphane Dauge, director of communications for the foundation.

It is true that in 2020, households were particularly generous.

In a context of an unprecedented health crisis, donations to aid organizations for people in difficulty, known as “Coluche donations”, had jumped by 37% in 2020 according to Bercy (+ 7% for all associations).
