(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 20 - The Ukrainian Prosecutor General has issued an arrest warrant for the former Ukrainian pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, deposed by the riots in Maidan square in February 2014 and now a Russian citizen.

Yanukovich - we read in a post of the Attorney General on Telegram, also picked up by varimedia - is accused of having fled to Russia in 2014 from the Donetsk region using three Russian military helicopters, on which he would have brought 20 people, "smuggled" across the border, according to the Ukrainian magistrates.

"On February 23, 2014 (the day after his fall, ed), Yanukovych, together with security personnel and representatives of the Russian Federation, with the help of three Russian Armed Forces helicopters, illegally crossed (the border) and transported at least 20 people across the state border from the outskirts of Urzuf in the Donetsk region to the Russian Anapa region, "near Krasnodar, the post says.

It is believed that Yanukovych still resides in Russia, but it is not known where, although some reports reported by Ukrinform would give him in Minsk, Belarus.
